February Monthly Minute

February is traditionally a month when we are all a little more tired and we feel like the winter will never end.  This is also a time when we hear our children say they ‘don’t like’ or no longer want to come to class.  This is NORMAL as we feel tired and want to snuggle in, find warmth, rest and wait for the winter to pass. So if your energy and spirits are low, this is the time to start planning and finding ways for yourself, your child and your family to look forward to all the exciting things coming with the spring weather.  Let’s do this together!

At Pegasus Dance Studios, we are busy planning our Parent Open House week, Spring Showcase and Summer Camps.  Please look at your February Newsletter for all the exciting things to look forward to!

Parent Open House!! 
Dance families, it’s time for one of our favorite weeks of the year: Parent Open House Week! We have not been able to do it for the past few years, so we are excited to invite you in, behind the doors and windows!
Parent Open House Week is when we open our classroom doors to YOU and allow your child to show you all that they have been learning (they might even get you up and teach you a few things!). You’ll be able to attend each lesson with your child and get an inside look at how our classes are structured.  We know our students look forward to this time with you, and we’re here to make sure it’s an awesome experience for you both.
 Here are some of our best tips for a successful Parent Open House Week:

•  We ask for you to plan for mom &/or dad to come to class. Please do not bring the whole family as space is limited.  We also ask that you make this be a special time with your child. If possible find a place to leave siblings behind, but we understand if this is not possible.
  

• In some classes you may be invited to join in and learn a few ‘moves’ so please be         prepared. No special clothing or shoes required.  
  

•  Let your child take the lead!  They are going to be thrilled to have your presence in the classroom.  Ask them questions ahead of time and be prepared to talk about the class and what you learned or observed afterwards!
  

• This class is only a snapshot and not ‘regular’ in any way.  The younger children may just want to sit on your lap, so please encourage them and if needed join in (you won’t be alone or the first, and you will be surprised how much fun you will have). Some classes are more chatty and will be silent with you there and the teacher will be surprised how much they accomplish. The Senior classes may ask you not to come.  We encourage you to come anyway!
  
• Please bring  your sense of humor, and be OK with feeling silly or making mistakes, if dancing along with us.  No need to worry about what you look like!  Also bring your patience, understanding and questions as the teachers are looking forward to answering your questions,explaining or discussing the class with you. They will plan for shorter classes to allow for this and for the transitions between classes.
  

 
Parent Open House Week is about so much more than stepping into class with your child: it’s about noticing their hard work, appreciating what they’ve been learning, showing them you care, and supporting something they have a passion for!
Parent Open House Week is also an amazing opportunity to meet other parents and get to know the other families here at Pegasus Dance Studios. The positive energy during this week is absolutely contagious.
