Dear First year Pegasus Dancer, Welcome! I am not sure how you found us or how you came to take classes at Pegasus Studios, but I am sure glad you are here and hope it is the beginning of a long relationship. When I was a little girl, whenever a flyer about dance classes would appear at our door I would ask my mother if I could join. We had a family of six, limited resources and no car. My mother wanted to be able to send me to take classes, but with young children at home I had to be able to get there on my own and she needed to save up the money. So with each and every flyer I would ask “now”? Finally another flyer appeared and it was at the local public school and I was old enough to go on my own? My big chance! By then I was almost 13 years old and I had to join a much younger Ballet class (Grade 3 RAD) so that I could catch up. I was so excited and very serious and I don’t remember even once thinking I should not be in this class with younger students. And so began my love and passion for dance. I hope that you too will find a passion for movement and dance that will last a life time. Focus, determination, goal setting (one small step at a time), enthusiasm and joy are what I found in the dance studio. I remember very few of the classmates in my early ears of dancing but I remember my teachers and how they nurtured and cared for me. Later on when I became able to dance alongside my peers I made lifelong friends with like minded dancers and dance educators. What I wish for you is to make connections with your teachers and dancing friends and to be thankful to your parents for giving you this opportunity to find a passion to the arts. When I speak with Pegasus Alumni (stay tune for a blog post about them) they say what they learned in their dance classes, from their dancing friend, teachers and Pegasus Studios has made a positive impact in all areas of their lives. And so I am glad you are here, I am glad you have found a place to nurture and explore your inborn creative spirit. Please do not hesitate to connect with me or your teachers at Pegasus. We love to know what is working and not working for you and how we can help you find your passion. Love, Jane At Pegasus Studios we believe that we don’t teach kids to make great dancers, we teach dance to make great kids.
