Are your kids ready to start school in September? Are they also ready for their fall season of Toronto dance classes? This might be the time for a handy back to school checklist! Kids from all over Toronto and especially from the Danforth, Leslieville, and Beaches areas in the East End of the city come to us for their dance classes. We’re here to provide some tips to help you prepare for the back to school—and back to dance—season. There’s a real "ticking clock" feeling to the month of August. Every single day brings us closer to the start of school. For kids, this means fitting in every minute of relaxation and summer fun that they can manage to squeeze in. For parents, it means preparing everything, from new school clothing to school supplies, before they run out of time at the beginning of September.
It's the same story with the new fall season of Toronto dance classes that’s now coming up quickly! If you don't have a fantastic back-to-school checklist in place, there's a good chance that your kids won't be ready for the first dance class. Thankfully, we've got your back! With this back-to-school checklist, you can be sure that your kids will be all set for their new season of dance classes in Toronto at Pegasus Studios! What Toronto Dance Classes Should You Choose? Dream Big! The funny thing about kids is how often they change their minds. While they might have been wild about a certain style of dance last spring, their tastes may have changed over the summer months. And that’s ok! Because now is the right time to try something new! Exploration is an important part of childhood and development and we like to encourage kids to dream big and pursue a variety of interests. If your child has only danced ballet up until now, they might want to try something new. For example, many ballet students absolutely love our AcroDance classes! AcroDance is a combination of dance and acrobatic gymnastics based movements and tricks and the classes are focussed on individual progression, which kids love. There are also our Modern Dance classes, which provide a wonderful opportunity for kids to express their creativity more freely! Or they might tap dancing a try or how about jazz? There are so many options to choose from and it’s wonderful for kids to explore and stretch their wings. The really important thing is to set aside some time to sit down with your kids and go through our course schedule for the 2019/2020 school year to make your decisions. Making sure you're all on the same page with their classes might save some headaches down the line. Get Registered ASAP for your Toronto Dance Classes As soon as you've figured out which classes your child wants to take, we recommend registering as soon as possible. In case you’re new to Pegasus, we strive to offer the best variety of Toronto dance classes for kids in the Danforth, Leslieville, and Beaches areas of Toronto. Our community-oriented environment emphasizes strong family values that we’re sure will resonate with your family. Some of our most popular dance classes fill up super quickly, which means that you might be out of luck if you wait too long. It’s important to us that our classes don’t get too big so that we’re still able to give extensive individual attention to each of our students. Don’t Forget Dancewear! Dance Fittings are ON! When it comes to dance class supplies, it’s not the usual pencils, rulers, erasers, and pens. Instead, your little ones will need shoes, tights, clothing, and perhaps even tutus! To prepare for dance classes in Toronto, you’ll need the right dancewear for your child’s specific program and it’s essential that everything fits properly. If a child is wearing dance shoes that don't fit anymore or tights that are a bit too, well, tight, it can be incredibly uncomfortable at best, and dangerous at worst. That’s why we hold dancewear fittings. From August 10th to 19th, we’re offering 15% off all dance uniforms* with the code: BACKTODANCE. All dancewear can be ordered online through Johnny Brown but if you come in to Pegasus see us in person, we can help you with sizing. We will be available to help you find the right sizes to order. Back to School Checklist for Dance Classes: Dancewear & Dance Supplies You can find our dance packages here that show what your child will need for their program. Don’t hesitate to contact us if you’re unsure of your child’s dancewear needs. Here is an overview of everything that your child might need. Again, some of these specific items may depend on your child’s program so it’s important to pick and register for your program first. Dance Bags Before going through the rest of this list, remember that you're going to need something for your child to carry all of their equipment in. Be sure to empty out the bag once your child gets home from dance class, to air out any sweaty items. It can’t hurt to toss in a few deodorizing pouches as well! Hair Accessories If your child has longer hair, they need a way to prevent it from flying in their face during class. From styling it into a bun to simply pinning it down, hair accessories are a back-to-school must for dance class! Dance Shoes Ballet Slippers, Demi-Pointe Shoes, Jazz, or Tap Shoes… Oh my! Having the right dance shoes for your dance class is a necessity. Kids grow up fast, likely requiring new shoes every year or so. Dancing in ill-fitting shoes can not only be uncomfortable but also dangerous, so be sure that they’re a great fit! For ballet, you want ballet slippers. Jazz shoes or black sneakers are a perfect multi-use shoe for many dance classes. If your child will be taking tap, they’re going to need tap shoes. In some classes, your child may even go barefoot, which is the most economical forms of dance footwear! Again, check out our dance packages for details about what shoes your child will need. Leotard, Unitard, T-Shirt, Tights, or Dance Shorts Freedom of movement is everything in dance, no matter what style. That's why your child needs comfortable, form-fitting clothing that will let them get their dance on! Certain classes have specific dress codes, so check the packages before you purchase. Keep in mind that, not unlike with dance shoes, having a proper fit is essential to your child's comfort and safety when dancing. Water Bottle As with any kind of physical activity, it's important to keep properly hydrated throughout dance class. We recommend buying a durable water bottle that can keep the water cold, but don't break the bank on it. Trust us, children have a way of losing water bottles, so maybe avoid the super-expensive, vacuum-sealed models! Snacks Tossing a small snack into your child's dance bag before they head off to class can be a lifesaver. We recommend just a small granola or protein bar, as it may give them a necessary boost of energy if they're waning before class. They might not eat it right away, but those bars have long shelf lives so having one in their bag is a good insurance policy. Please note that we are a nut-free facility. Towel If we're doing our job right as an East End Toronto dance school, your kids are going to work up a sweat. That's why tossing a small towel into their dance bag can be a great idea. Letting them towel their face and hair off a bit before leaving the studio can be smart, especially when it starts to get cold in Toronto come November. We Can’t Wait to See You! If you have any questions about our classes, we invite you to contact us today! We serve dance students all over Toronto, including the Danforth, Leslieville, and the Beaches, and we'd be happy to answer all of your questions! And don't forget that we're offering 15% off all dance uniforms* until August 19th with the code: BACKTODANCE.
