SPRING BREAK: Closed from April 12 to 17. I am ready to unplug and take a break. I usually spend this week finalizing Showcase details and planning for the New Fall Season. I will be doing that, but with nowhere to go and no one to see, I will plan on completely turning off all devices for a few days and plan some solo hikes. I love to hike and explore new places and the outdoors. We are extremely lucky to have so many local ravines, parks and trails. I hope that you and your family find a way to enjoy the spring weather, rejuvenate and maybe even hug a few trees. I hear that is good for the soul! SAVE THE DATES: Spring Fling! Showcase: May 29 & 30 and June 5 & 6 These are the dates that we have been planning on and posted on our website since last year. Although everything in this year has not gone as planned, and our Showcase will look different, at least we can be consistent with the dates! END OF YEAR SHOWCASE DETAILS:
On our website Showcase Plans information, we outlined four different scenarios based on what we thought we might be able to do. As we still have no clear idea we are moving forward with the most restrictive plan and if we can move forward with other plans we will. What we know for sure; We have the dates, we have planned days and times for each class. That will be consistent. These are our options; A - Virtual Showcase - Dancers will perform on zoom and it will be recorded on the day and time scheduled. These will be edited and a watch party will be planned for viewing at a later date, TBA. B - Filmed Showcase - Dancers will come to the studio on their day and time, to dance together with their class maintaining mandated health and safety guidelines for group sizes, spacing and masks. This will be filmed, edited and a watch party will be planned for viewing at a later date, TBA. C - One Class Showcase - Dancers and one or two family members will come to the studio on their day and time, to dance together for their families, maintaining mandated health and safety guidelines for group sizes, spacing and masks. For all of these options, we hope that you will participate in and plan to have a family &/or small viewing party with all the special performance traditions your families have adopted over the years, flowers, a special dinner, ice cream etc. We would love to hear what your family does to celebrate this event and the many achievements gained this year! Although we seem to focus on what we have all missed this year, there have also been many positives! Let's celebrate those! Junior Dancers Costume Pickups - Please sign up for the time that is convenient for you to pick up your child’s Junior costume. Please remember that some people opted out of receiving a costume this year and so we only have costumes for those who submitted measurements and ordered. Those dancers who did not order a costume, please find something special for your dancer to wear and adopt as their costume so that it is a special event for them as well. We are happy to make suggestions if needed. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040B45A4AC2DAAFA7-junior1 Senior Dancers - T-shirt orders https://forms.gle/Hf1qaxGC2JXEJ5MJ7 Please make sure your dancer has ordered their t-shirt, no additional charge. Some classes will be wearing these as their costumes and some classes have decided to create their own class costume. Please ask your dancer if they need to provide something from their closest. ON MY MIND: I have a group of studio owners across the globe that I connect with each week to share thoughts, ideas and motivation. The Pegasus Faculty and team also meet regularly to discuss ways of strengthening connections and to continue to find ways to be hopeful and joyful in our classes. As educators, we know that we need to look past what we know to what we can learn and do better. Our students continue to inspire us and teach us even in times when we have no idea if we are reaching them and we are thankful for the ability to stretch ourselves as educators. As a parent, educator and business owner, I know I don’t always know the answer and at times not even the question, but I know I can figure it out and find a solution. Please encourage your dancers, mostly our seniors to look past what might be seen as failures of their teachers, themselves, their parents etc and know that we are together in figuring out this new world. We will figure it out and we will be stronger for it as long as we have compassion. We have all been wondering and thinking what else could we be doing to inspire our students mental, emotional and physical well being. As we continue to be in the thick of this pandemic we all are stretched to our limits. Educators, Parents, Children and Families. At this time of year, we typically begin to switch our focus from dance training to dance performance and choreography. In the restrictions that we have been given this year, our faculty is focused on dance education. So if the classes you overhear or see, seem to be less movement, more discussion, chats, breakout rooms, movement games etc, (which we don’t do as much of in the studio) please know that this is intentional and is part of your child’s dance education. Keeping the connections, engagement, and being consistent is important at this time when we all are reaching deeper to connect with your children. In the words of a colleague “I think that we can never over-state how dance is one of the few activities that can go online and still keep students tracking in progress, learning creatively, and keeping connected.” Until Next Month, Stay Well, Stay Joyful, Jane
